STAFF INSPECTOR - SPRAYER

The STAFF INSPECTOR - SPRAYER is a full-time employee. To perform inspections and control operations in assigned areas; coordinate aerial larval spray operations; provide office and shop support during the off season and to do related work as required. Under direction, to provide field instruction and guidance to Seasonal Inspector-Sprayer or Mosquito Control Technician (MTC) class employees.

40 hours per week with benefits  

$21.00 is the starting pay

Characteristics:

Wide knowledge of the Districts entire program and area; working knowledge of the problems and techniques of vector control operations used by the District, including the use of insecticides, record keeping procedures, safety precautions and effectiveness of the different types of spray applications under various conditions; general knowledge of vector ecology and the breeding and living habitats of the vectors; ability to organize and conduct vector control field operations and to instruct and provide leadership with subordinates; ability to keep and compile records and prepare reports; ability to interpret aerial photography for vector producing sources; ability to work cooperatively and effectively with other employees and the public and to evaluate situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.

The STAFF INSPECTOR - SPRAYER is a working supervisor who assists the Field Supervisor in maintaining supervision over field operations by assuming responsibilities in specific areas.

Examples of Duties:

1.     Assists the Field Supervisor in the instruction of new employees in scope of responsibilities and duties and operating policies of the District as it applies to the field operation; provides on-the-job training in techniques and methods of inspection and spraying and in safety procedures and precautions;

2.     Coordinates the inspection and control of more difficult areas of marsh and wet-lands areas;

3.     Coordinates and conducts mosquito control treatments for tree hole mosquitoes usually beginning in February through March

4.     Initiates requests for aircraft service for larval mosquito control and provides information, such as: species and stage of development, topographic features, human or animal presence in area, power lines. etc. required for effective and safe aerial spray service;

5.     Operates equipment, such as: all-terrain-vehicle and pickup trucks outfitted with powered and hand held spray equipment; keeps equipment in a clean and professional condition, and may be assigned in simple maintenance and repairs;

6.     Tows and operates the tractor and mower to assist in vegetation management and road and dike repairs;

7.     Works as an INSPECTOR - SPRAYER as needed in regular assignment and to cover absences;

8.     Assists in map review and working with land owners for property access, assist in annual report data preparation and the making of graphs, light trap collections, surveillance, simple 'housekeeping' tasks, painting and receiving and maintaining stock inventories;

9.     Calibrates various pieces of spray equipment as needed;

10.  Attends training sessions, reads District manuals and otherwise keeps informed of policies and procedures; keeps Field Supervisor informed of progress and problems.

11.  Assist with “On Call” for ULV Spray Crew. Create maps for assignments, trouble shoot equipment problems, pull trucks out when stuck, assist with equipment break down.

12.  Assist with building maintenance and cleaning. Assist in end of season maintenance and winterizing equipment. Assist in equipment maintenance and repairs during fall and winter months. Assist in snow removal around MAD-D facility.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education equivalent to graduation from high school (appropriate work experience which will develop a level of achievement and literacy equivalent to a high school education may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis). 

 A valid Utah Motor Vehicle Operators License with an excellent driving record.  Experience with the operation of a four wheel all-terrain-vehicle (ATV).

Possession of a current Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicators License in the Public Health Category issued by the Utah State Department of Agriculture.

Experience of two years as an INSPECTOR - SPRAYER or equivalent in a similar vector control related position.

Must be physically able and willing to do heavy physical labor. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
